Question
As you seem to be knowledgeable about Gregory Peck movies, I hope that you will be able to answer a question that my father and I have had for several years.  With the passing of Mr. Peck, my father has asked me again to find the title of a movie that he saw only a part of. I would like to be able to show him this movie as soon as possible.
The only information that I can give is a short description of a scene that stood out in my father's mind:

Gregory Peck (?) and another man were tied up in a cabin and robbed by two other men.  They managed to get loose and as the other man looked on and complained about the time it was taking, G.P. loaded and adjusted the sights on what appeared to be a Sharps rifle.  After adjusting for wind, distance, etc. the shot was finally taken.  Camera switches to a view of the two 'bad guys' and we hear a fwop, fwop, fwop (the sound of the bullet tumbling through the air) and suddenly one of the men is knocked from his horse.

If you have any idea what the title of this movie is, Please advise.  My father and I would greatly appreciate it.

                                                                                                               Thank You Very Much,
                                                                                                                           Don Fort

Answer
Hi Don.  :)

Forgive my taking a day to get back with you but, when I read your question last night, although I was almost positive that this wasn't a scene from a Gregory Peck film, I wanted to be sure.  As such, I dug out every western GP ever made, and watched them all...start to finish...including: Shootout, How the West Was Won, Yellow Sky, The Big Country, McKenna's Gold, Billy Two-Hats, The Stalking Moon, Duel in the Sun, and The Gunfighter...now, bleary eyed (but happily so...I can think of worse ways of passing time than watching Gregory Peck), I can promise you that this scene is not from a Gregory Peck film.

I know that Peck is most often confused with Robert Mitchum and Gary Cooper (and one of these could be the man your father is thinking of), but, I could swear that I remember the scene you described from a Clint Eastwood film...is it possible that Eastwood is who he's thinking of?

Please let me know any further information you can come up with...after this much time, now my curiosity is just about to eat me up.

:)
