Pediatrics - Chronic/ recurring cold & cough - 3.50 yr old
Expert: Dr Kondekar Santosh Venketraman Pediatrician MD from Mumbai India - 11/4/2009
Question For the past one year our three %26 half year old son has been getting a recurring cold %26 wet cough. In March 2009, he had bronco pneumonia; was hospitalized recovered. Started normal school in June 09 OK for a while. Then regular bouts of cold %26 phylum based cough with out fever started.
He was put on multiple drugs (antibiotics incl) I don't even recount how many types now; I feel which could have reduced his resistance. Recently had an ear infection which repeated quickly in a week. Went to an ENT Spl and that is cured..
After finishing the antibiotic course, he gets better to have another cold. We have seen a pulmonologist but again the same course of antibiotics, so no permanent cure. Our pediatrician said he has bronchitis and he will grow out of it with age. We are pained to see him on regular medicines and hospital visits. We tried Homeo %26 Ayurveda as well for this cold cure %26 resistence increase but in vain.
Lastly we would be visiting another pulmonologist to see if has an allergies which could be causing his recurring cold %26 cough along with low resistance
Any suggestions %26 help pls, Anything else we should do or suggest to our pediatrician?
Answer 2 main questions are these symptoms too often and with fever?
are night symptoms often seen affecting sleep?
if the first question answer is yes, i would strongly rule out adenoids and tonsils and act for its removal.
if tehs econd question answer is yes, its all related more liekly to allergy ro rhinitis-asthma that will be curtailed with nasal spray / inhalors.
if weight gain is minimal you need to hury up with evaluations for adenoids or asthma.
