Hi Doc,My son is 5 years old.About a week ago he had high fever 104. he had blisters on hand, foot & mouth. He was diagnosed as Hand,foot & mouth disease.Now his palms & fingers skin is peeling & it has become very fragile & soft.Three days before he has swelling on his right cheek which remained for almost a day. Before he had hand foot mouth disease he was suffering from repeatedly fever on & off since two months. His complete blood check up, chest xray & montoux test was done. Reports are normal. Every time he had fever peadiatrician suspected viral.My question is does peelng of skin is due to hand foot mouth or is it that his immune system has gone down & extra care is required so that he doesnot get any more virals/infections.He has taken paracetamol for almost two months on regular basis.Will this affect his lever?
taking paracetamol for such along duration daily is not a good sign and can eb toxi. this child needs to ebs een by another pediatrician too. ist very likely that child ahd 4 febriel episodes in alst 2 montsh and each alsted for 1 week. if peeling fo skin only si concern, it can occur following any viral infection. but specifically it does occur in one of rare conditions called kawasaki disease. i have incomplete information about childs progresion ro revovery over last 2 months.. so jumping to any such diagnosis is liekly to be wrong. sometimes such peeling can also be seen in soem connective tussue diseases.
