Pediatrics - Lingering headache in 5 year old
Expert: David Olson, MD - 11/2/2009
Question My 5 year old daughter is complaining of a constant pain in the forehead for 15 days now. It changes intensities and is at the center of the forehead and sometimes to the sides of the temples.
She is normal until it is very high in intensity. Motrin(ibuprofen) relieves her temporarily.
Showed to the doctor, he asked us to wait for 2 more week, but did all the ENT checkup and he said not sign of any infection.
What to do? Can you suggest a cause according to your experience, that we could have our doctor look into more deeply!!
Thanks and waiting for your advice...
Answer Hi, Ojasvi,
A previously healthy child this age, with no family history of migraines (I don't know this), and a haeadache for two weeks, probably needs an imaging study of the brain. A CT scan or MRI could be used to eliminate the possibility of serious problems in the brain.
Ask your doctor if this seems appropriate.
Good luck, Dr. Olson
