Pediatrics - Regarding Lymphnode in left armpit
Expert: David Olson, MD - 11/7/2009
Question Hi,
My 19 month child has developed a lymphnode in the left armpit after given the BCG injection. Initially the node was small but now it has grown up an we are scared what to do. We had FNAC done and the report showed Bacillus positive. But there are no symptoms of TB as such and we are getting differnet advice like we can go for surgery or can go for TB course. We are very confused. Please help in resolving the query.
Regards,
Mandeep
Answer Hi, Mandeep,
I am not used to BCG in the USA, but I suspect it could cause an enlarged axillary node in the arm in which it was given. This can either be a suppurative or a non-suppurative adenitis. The best thing to do is it is not inflamed is to follow it. If it seems inflamed or breaking down, the a surgical approach with needle or surgical removal might be entertained. Your doctor will be far more knowledgeable about this than I.
Good luck, Dr. Olson
