Pediatrics - When to take our baby out in Public
Expert: Dr Kondekar Santosh Venketraman Pediatrician MD from Mumbai India - 11/1/2009
Question Hi Dr,
Thank you for taking out time to answer my question.
We have daughter who is 72 days old (2 months+) & is a full term baby. We have been taking her out to relative's places (from the last one month). But we are not sure as to when is it the right time.
In fact today we had taken her to someone's thread ceremony where she moved across 5-10 people. This started us thinking. Kindly let us know your view. We are from Mumbai.
Answer well, i recommend not atleast till first 6 months as immunity is low. even the hand and objects of people tend to be contaminated with respiratory secretions or Gut secretions. I will strongly discourage public handling of a baby without handwashing. kissing is a straight no no especially in winter when many organisms can contaminate or cause infections. avoid ceremonies, temples and crowded places.
