Question
Do you believe the swine flu vaccine is safe for children?  There is a doctor (Dr. Mercola) who is stating on his website that there are ingredients in it known to be carcingogens.  He is stating that the vaccine is harmful and could cause cancer years after taking it.  What do you think?  I am on the fence!  Here is a link to one of his pages:

Answer
Hi, Kellie,

I have no concern about the swine flu vaccine and feel it is safe and very effective.  Over 114 kids have died so far from the H1N1 flu and its complications.  This number is astounding, considering how early we are in this season.  This virus infects kids more than adults and although the mortality seems small, this is a significant problem in the pediatric world.  Get your kids vaccinated.

I disagree with many statements in the website.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

I would be happy to attempt to answer any questions about general pediatric topics, either medical issues or behavioral issues. This would include all the various questions one receives in a busy pediatric practice. I`m a board certified pediatrician in northern Michigan and have been in practice for over 15 years. I enjoy the teaching role I have in our practice and would enjoy the opportunity to help others with their pediatric problems.
