Question
My son is 13 months old.  We finally got his GERD pain under control by moving this Prevacid to 15  mg twice daily.  Things were going so well until a couple of weeks ago when he started getting his molars. Food consumption is less than half and it is a fight to the death to get fluids in him as his fluid aversion is back in full force. I had to take him to the ER today for fluids.  His throat is red and raw and he has a canker sore on this tonsil. Why would teething make his reflux flair up to a point that his Prevacid no longer works?

Answer
Dear Karen:

I don't think this is a Prevacid problem.  Seems to me as though he is not only teething but has some kind of viral infection in his throat causing him to be ill and not feeling well.  He is not eating nor drinking because his throat is sore.  Try a little Tylenol to reduce his discomfort.
