Question QUESTION: My 12 year old son just had a bone age x-ray test done which showed that he has the bones of a 7 year old. What does this mean? What can be done about it?
ANSWER: it means there is some problem with his hormones that influence growth.
it needs an endocrinologisst consultation and some hormonal studies to known which one and why...
hormone supplelemnt to be added will depend on the same.
i feel you confirm bone age from other radiologist too .. and not only from the hand x ray.

QUESTION: My son has also been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome and Vit. D defficiency (his level was 13). Could this have any baring on the hormone issue?
ANSWER: can u post me the xray pic by email? what was done for vitamin defi.
it can still be related to hormones. when did u suspect marfan syndrome?
pls dont hide any data .. its crucial.
---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------
QUESTION: The Marfan Syndrome was actually suspected by his pediatrician. He has 9 out of 10 symptoms including pectus excavatum, flat feet, crowded teeth(he had to have 12 teeth pulled before he could get braces this past year), extremely long arms and legs. We were going to have the pectus surgery done this summer, but due to the other problems he is having we have decided to wait. He did have an echo. done which did not show any abnormalities at this time, however; it was hard to read due to the pectus excavatum.
Answer well, its marfans for sure. well, if its marfans.. for me the delayed bone age is not easy to digest. what parameter was taken to assess the delayed bone age? if it was only wrist xray that was taken for bone age.. then its likely as.. wrist xray doesnt show bone age above 7 years. they may ahve to check dentition or elbow epiphysis.
i feel if 2d echo is normal you may go ahead with surgery.
