Question hi, i was just wondering if you could help me. i have just read about a mothers worries about her baby bringing up mucous. well my baby is now 9 weeks old corrected, she was 7 weeks early. she was in intensive care for 2 weeks and special care for 5 weeks. about 2 weeks before leaving hospital, she started being sick whilst she was being fed, but it wasn't milk it was mucous. ever since then she has been bringing up this secretion every day about 4-5 times a day, with her feeds.she has a cleft palate, but i don't think that would affect it, would it? she has been using a haberman bottle but lately she is just all tube feeds as the bottle just takes too long. she sometimes struggles with bringing the secretion up and goes blue and cant breathe. she can now bring it up easy with a big spit, it always comes out of her nose, never her mouth, but i think that would be down to her cleft palate. this has been going on for nearly 3 months now and no one seems to be concerned about it....i need help. this affects our everyday lives because me and my husband are scared to go out in public places just incase she is sick everywhere, this also makes my daughter very upset when she is sick. please can you give me some advice or information on what it could be! thanx. Megan
Answer Hi, megan,
Of course I can help you!
I think the cleft palate is probably contributing greatly to the symptoms you are describing. The other thing I would wonder about, and this is something a good pediatrician should be able to assess, is whether your little one has acid reflux, or what we call GERD.
This is a distinct possibility and something that can be handled in a non-medicine and probably medicine way.
