Question
QUESTION: My baby's wght was 3.2kg at the time of birth.He was 6.4kgs when he was 4 mnths old, i was exclusively breastfeeding him. He is now 7 mnths old and his wght is 7kgs.In these 3 mnths when i started cow's milk and solids there is very slow increase in wght.
He is too fast and all the time wants to go here and there. I am feeding him banana, suji kher and khichdi and around 350 ml of milk.
Can u suggest me the changes i should make in his diet.


ANSWER: well, i suggest you to read my previous answers at
http://infantfeeding.blogspot.com also down load the CDc booklet on feeding from the link there. you may write back fi any further queries.

Cows milk isnt recommended before 2 yesr age unless there is no other option. go for introducing complementary feeding with rice kanji, suji, soups, juices and khimtees.
mothers milk may be continued after 6 months but it shouldnot be the major part of daily feeds.

QUESTION: Thanks doc for ur suggestions. My baby is not at all drinking water, and very less(350ml) of milk. Is this much fluid enough for her, i try to make her semisolid feeds as liquid as possible.
can u also suggest me a feeding pattern for the whole day.

My baby is not at all drinking water,
=== if the total intake is less than 100ml per kg body weight per day, its serious and you may visit a doc.

at 7 months.. she should be fed at least 6-8 times around 100 ml per feed. if she is taking less, take her to a doc to rule out adenoids.
feed with a spoon than a bottle.
