Question
My 10 week old daughter started sneezing a lot today, accompanied by a slight dry cough. This evening her eyes got very swollen and red (the skin around her eyes are red not her eyes themselves) and they are tearing. When her now 2 year old sister had the same problem at around the same age her doctor told me to use a small dosage of benadryl. So I called the after hours clinic to find out the dosage and they gave me the standard response, that children under 2 shouldn't have benadryl. So my question is what is the dosage of benadryl for a 2 and a half month old?
legally there is no dose of benadryl at this age.
it appears like allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, but surely it must eb confirmed by a specialist as its likely to have mistakes of diagnosis by hear say like this. one may give antihistamicn syrups like say chlorpheniramine or avil..a nd doe may eb just 4 drops. but you shouldnt use it without showing the baby and medicien to a doctor.

| Comment | Thank you so much for responding. It is nice to actually get some kind of advice other than FDA says you can give certain medicine, so sorry can't help you. Your baby will have to suffer. Which is what we hear all to often due to people overdosing their children. So when a child has a genuine problem they are turned away because of the guildelines that have pulled so many childrens medicines off of the shelves. So I will ask her doctor about those medicines that you suggested as soon as I can get her in on Monday. Thank you very much. Your help is greatly appriciated. | ||
