Question hello, I am sooo sad. My 6yr old son, weighs 60lbs, but has been in severe pain on and off on his left lower ad/groin area, he has had vomitin with this pain, we had an ultrasound done which stated that he had a 1.6cm renal lesion in his left kidney and a probable 5mm nonobstucting left renal calculas, his bun/creatine ratio was 35 and marked as high, could u explain what the lesion might be, I have read that the calculi is a stone, is the sizes big, do u think he would need surgery? I would like to hear from u , I cant get this out of my mind, but I do have an appt. with a ped. urologist on July 31st 2009. Please help me. thank you
Answer well, its surely a stone. and there can eb another stone in kidney. the lesion may be a stone or damage caused by the stone.
stones occur due to various reasosn, other than diet like rich in strawberrys, tomatoes, etc, it can be due to some defect since birth that makes some salts get stuck and forms tones.
pain is caused by stones, so is vomiting.
all stones dont need surgery. most stones improve by excess fluid intake and some diet restriction.
if teh child has poor growth and or any other health problem, he may require detailed evaluation including urine salt analysis and kidney tubular functions.
