Pediatrics - skin welts

Expert: Dr. Taher Kagalwala - 7/10/2009

Question
hi,

thank you for taking my question. i have a 3 year old son, and i found 3 welts in a row on his knee and one above his ankle. they are red with what appears to be white heads. he is not complaining that they hurt or itch, and i am guessing they are some kind of insect bite.

they do not appear to be inflamed, nor are they hot to the touch. i know you can not diagnose without actually seeing them, but i just wanted to know if you thought it was necessary to seek medical attention. as i said, he is not bothered by them at all.

any expert suggestions by you as to what i could do would be greatly appreciated. thank you again.

Answer
Dear Jen,

You are so right about the limits of an online consultation. Could you send me a photo of the rash to my offsite email id? (Check out my profile). Try and get close up pictures and take them in good light and from at least 2-3 different angles.
