Question
My daughter is 4 years old and has been toilet trained for over 2 years, but recently she has started to use her bedroom as a toilet I've tried leaving her bedroom door open I always leave on the toilet light for her I've even told her to go toilet before bed, nothing I do seems to work, me and her father have been seperated since she was 8 months old. She often sees him but when she comes back from seeing him she acts up she has a really bad attitude and does not listen to me, I really don't know what to do anymore I have tried everything!! PLEASE HELP xx

Answer
Hi,

This is probably a behavioral issue.  Please see your pediatrician, have a good history done, have a good exam, have the urine checked, and if everything is OK, then adopt a strict behavior modification program to stop what is willful and intentional behavior.  This can range from Time Outs, to taking away systematically privileges.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

I would be happy to attempt to answer any questions about general pediatric topics, either medical issues or behavioral issues. This would include all the various questions one receives in a busy pediatric practice. I`m a board certified pediatrician in northern Michigan and have been in practice for over 15 years. I enjoy the teaching role I have in our practice and would enjoy the opportunity to help others with their pediatric problems.
