Question
QUESTION: Hi. I have been through the problem of intense itching all over my body. I got through blood testing and found bilirubin level 1.7 (normal 1.0). Then, i had had my ultrasound and everything was normal. No gall stone at all. I was prescribed Kestine (ebastine) and it worked good. But the problem is my skin start itching whenever i stog taking the tablet Kestine. Am I suffering from Jaundice? (No pale, yellowness of skin at all). I only suffer from itching.

ANSWER: Hi Shahzaib,

No, raised bilirubin level/jaundice is not the cause of itching in your case. It must be something else. Your doctor, after careful evaluation only can tell the reason.

QUESTION: May I go to a skin specialist? Doesn't raised bilirubin level cause itching?

Answer
Hi Shahzaib,

Yes, you can consult a skin specialist.

Mildly raised bilirubin level does not cause such significant itching. However, cause of raised bilirubin needs to be found out by further evaluation (from liver point of view, not from itching point of view).
