Pediatrics/pentavac can be after pentaxim..

hi sir myself dr vijay.
my baby has been given pentaxim vaccine at 2month, and at 3 month pentavac will it harm to my baby and now at 4month which should be given - pentaxim or pentavac ?
thanks sir.

Hi Dr. Vijay,

There is no harm to the baby if Pentavac was given after giving Pentaxim.

However, you must know the difference between the two. While Pentaxim is a combination of DtP (acellular/ "painless' or "gentle": DTaP) with Hib and IPV. Pentavac is a combination of  DTP, Hib and Hepatitis B vaccines.

If the baby was given Pentaxim at 2 months, he should also have been given 2nd dose of Hepatitis B vaccine separately (if not received earlier)...and when baby was given Pentavac at 3 months, baby should have been given 2nd dose of IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine) as a separate injection.

Next dose can either be Pentaxim (single injection) or Quadrovax (NOT Penavac) (Quadrovax is a combination of DTP and Hib. In either case, 3rd dose of Hep B should be given later, separately (ideally be given 5 months after 2nd dose.

Please feel free to ask for any further clarification.

Best wishes,

I would be happy to answer general queries on prevention and treatment of ailments in newborn, infant, toddler, child or an adolescent. Needless to say, it will not be possible to answer any query that requires diagnosing, since it is not possible to examine a child online.
