Pediatrics/fingers in mouth

MY kid of 4 months old is keeping his fingers in mouth very frequently. Even immediately after feeding.

Is there any specific reason that kids keep fingers in mouth.

Please give any suggestions to stop that habit.

Hi, bachu,

Why would you want to stop something that kids have been doing ever since kids existed?  They put their fingers in their mouths because it is soothing and helps with gum pain for teething.  It is comforting.  It is not bad in any way.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

I would be happy to attempt to answer any questions about general pediatric topics, either medical issues or behavioral issues. This would include all the various questions one receives in a busy pediatric practice. I`m a board certified pediatrician in northern Michigan and have been in practice for over 15 years. I enjoy the teaching role I have in our practice and would enjoy the opportunity to help others with their pediatric problems.
