Dear sir.
My baby girl had been given Pentaxin on 25.09.2014 and later on 24.10.2014 the new doctor gave Quadrovax and Poliovac Is that going to create any problem. Does Quadrovac comes under Painess Catogry if not what are the side effect and for how much time.

Hi Avinash,

As per latest guidelines of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), DTaP (acellular/ "painless"/ "gentle" DTP) containing vaccines  like Pentaxim must not be used, since it has been recently found that they are not as effective as DTwP ("normal"/ whole cell DTP)in the long run. Since these guidlines were issued long back in November 2013, I am surprised why Pentaxim was used as 1st dose in your baby.

It was a good decision to switch to Quadrovax this time. Please go for DtwP vaccine only in all the future doses. The October 2014 guidelines of IAP have clearly stated that babies who have received DTaP in the past must be switced to DtwP for all subsequent doses.

DTwP can cause fever/ pain for 1-3 days, but is immaterial, since it is also more effective in protecting the baby in the long run: and that is the primary objective of the vaccination!!

Best wishes,

I would be happy to answer general queries on prevention and treatment of ailments in newborn, infant, toddler, child or an adolescent. Needless to say, it will not be possible to answer any query that requires diagnosing, since it is not possible to examine a child online.

I have worked in various capacities (medical officer, resident, senior resident, consultant) in public as well as private sector in Pediatrics and Neonatology. Today, I have over 17 years of experience in the field.

Currently, I am running my own clinic (Kumar Child Clinic) in Dwarka, New Delhi and am attached to Lifeline Hospital, Dwarka as consultant pediatrics and neonatology. I am also developing my clinic website into a comprehensive child health/ parenting website (
