Pediatrics/reflux baby positioning

Hello sir,
My son is 3 and a half months old.he is exclusively breastfed.he is a reflux baby.he keeps constantly spitting inspite of burping him, feeding in semiupright position & making him lie in a reclined position.however gaining weight adequately.

the problem is he always prefers to lie on our shoulders(in the burping position) even if it is 2 hrs at a stretch, especially at day.
the moment he is put down he would start crying.
though at night he manages to sleep in bed.
elders at home say we are spoiling him by putting him on my shoulders always.
am i spoiling him?kindly help.what do i do?

Hi Madhavi,

You are definitely NOT spoiling him...but this can't go on for a long time, practically speaking. It would become more and more difficult for YOU only as he grows. You need to be patient and let him gently learn to be off your shoulders. Yes, he would cry, but has to learn, no? You need to have patience (and strong-hearted person) and keep trying. Don't be afraid of his crying.

Sorry, I don't have any "tricks" to help him learn. It has to be done as such only

Best wishes,

I would be happy to answer general queries on prevention and treatment of ailments in newborn, infant, toddler, child or an adolescent. Needless to say, it will not be possible to answer any query requiring specific diagnosis of a particular subject.
