Hello, my son is 6 weeks old and ever since he was about a week we have been struggling with constpstion with him .. he will not go on his own so we have been gaving to use suppositories for about a month now . We took him to the doctor and his doctor did not seem concerned that he wont go on his own, they had to to try prune juice and apple juice . We have tried both and neither one does anything for him .  After the supppositories he will go and it will go and it will be a hunter green and very thick ! We went back to the doctor on thursday ( today being thursday) and when i told them he seems more fussy then usual and is having this issue they put us on samples of simlac total confort ( was on gerber good start ) thursday he had his normal thick hunter green bm but without any help ! The next day being friday he had a bm that was more normal then iv seen in a wile and then later that night he had a bm that was very dark green and pure liquid . Today he has the same but with slimy texture twice today and that is how it was . Also he seems more fussy then usual . Is this normal ? Could it be from the change in formula ? Should i be concerned ?

Hi Marissa,

Babies can normally have semi-formed bm...nothing to be worried about. Consult your doctor in case he appears sick.

Best wishes,

I would be happy to answer general queries on prevention and treatment of ailments in newborn, infant, toddler, child or an adolescent. Needless to say, it will not be possible to answer any query that requires diagnosing, since it is not possible to examine a child online.
