Pediatrics/15 days old baby boy did not pass stool from past 3 days

Respected Sir,

It is to inform you that my 15 days old baby boy is not passing stool from past three days. He is currently dependent on breast-feeding and at times feeding is less due to insufficient secretion of mothers milk. He has been given today Janam Ghutti as per advise of a pediatrician in Delhi.

What should be our course of action and when should we go down for consulting a good pediatrician.

Thanks & Regards,
Sovanjeet Mishra,Asst.Prof.(Management) !!

Dear Prof. Mishra,

It is NORMAL for a baby not to pass stool even for 7-8 days, if baby is feeding well and passing urine regularly (at least 6-8 times in 24 hours).

Please don't give Janam Ghutti.

Please don't give any other milk other than breastfeeding. If milk is less, baby would demand more frequently: baby should be fed more frequently and ultimately milk flow/ amount would increase. On the other hand, giving any other milk, baby will be satisfied for the time being and this would in turn SUPRESS breastmilk (being in "Management" you would well understand "positive feedback" and "negative feedback"!!)...thus would harm the baby in the longer run. Breastfeed exclusively for 6 months. After 6 months, complementary feeding is started while CONTINUING breastfeeding.

Best wishes,
