Pediatrics/Poor weight gain

QUESTION: Hello doctor,
My 7 mnth old daughter (first of twins)was born with low weight (1.5)
After 7 mnth also her weight is only 5 kg. My son(second baby of twins) is showing good weight gain.He has also started crawling .But my daughter is neither showing any progress towatds
crawling or roliing from back t o stomach. Is it because of her low weight? What can i include in
her diet ?She takes 90-100 ml simyl mct twice a day, breastfeeding twice a day, soft rice, nachni khir with cow milk once in a day.

Waiting for your comments.
Thanking you,

ANSWER: Hi Jyotsna,

Relax! There is nothing to worry!

Normally babies triple their birth weight by 9 months of age. Your baby has more than tripled in 7 months...

I don't think baby requires Simyl MCT....continue with breastfeeding, soft diet, iron & multivitamin supplements...

QUESTION: Thank you doctor for your instant reply. We were so worried about her weight.
Her pediatrician suggested simyl mct as to provide sufficient breast milk to both of my babies
If I am breastfeeding one baby, another baby takes formula milk.

Can I start cow milk in their diet?

Also my daughter have some black spots on her knees and buttockos. Initially they were so dark but now they have become less darker. Is it something thay we need to consult skin specialist?

Hi Jyotsna,

First, Simyl MCT is NOT a regular "infant formula"... It is to be used only in specific conditions: There are number of infant formulae available in market: Nan-2, Lactogen-2, Lactodex-2, Dexolac-2, Dexolac Premium-2, Enfamil 2, Similac-2, Similac Advanced 2, Farex-2, etc. You can choose any one.

NO, Animal milk is harmful for baby's health. Should not be used preferably till 2 years of age and strictly till 12 months of age. However, small amount of animal milk can be used to prepoare milk-ceral, and as curd...but MUST NOT be used as a drink.

I can't comment on skin spots without seeing the baby. What does your pediatrician say?

I would be happy to answer general queries on prevention and treatment of ailments in newborn, infant, toddler, child or an adolescent. Needless to say, it will not be possible to answer any query that requires diagnosing, since it is not possible to examine a child online.
