Question
My son was born june 29 he had to stay for an 48 hour observation due to my water was broke more then 31 hours.I got to bring him home on the 2cnd since i brought him home he hasnt made a bowel movement is that normal or should i take him to the doctors?

Answer
Hi, angeline,

Generally if kids don't have a BM for a couple days and they are newborns, we like to see them to be sure their fluid intake and nutrition is adequate.  If he hasn't had one by now, call your doctor in the morning and they may want to see him.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

I would be happy to attempt to answer any questions about general pediatric topics, either medical issues or behavioral issues. This would include all the various questions one receives in a busy pediatric practice. I`m a board certified pediatrician in northern Michigan and have been in practice for over 15 years. I enjoy the teaching role I have in our practice and would enjoy the opportunity to help others with their pediatric problems.
