Pediatrics/Kidneys

Question
This isn't a pediatric question but the urology doctor on here is on vacation and I'm really worried. I've had middle back pain since yesterday morning and it hasn't improved at all. I'm not sure if I slept funny and it's a muscle issue or if it might be an organ. How do kidney pains feel? I'm 34 years old if that helps. It hurts when I wrigle around while laying down but not so much when standing up unless leaning back. Please help?

Answer
Hi, James,

Middle back pain can be due to a number of things, some exceptionally serious, like an impending rupture of an aortic aneurysm or a less serious problem like a kidney stone, a muscle strain, or about s downing other things.  See your doctor, hopefully not a pediatrician, if this is not better in the next few days or it gets worse.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

I would be happy to attempt to answer any questions about general pediatric topics, either medical issues or behavioral issues. This would include all the various questions one receives in a busy pediatric practice. I`m a board certified pediatrician in northern Michigan and have been in practice for over 15 years. I enjoy the teaching role I have in our practice and would enjoy the opportunity to help others with their pediatric problems.
