Question My 17 month old son has a strange thing happening with his left eye. About 4 days ago he had what looked like a sty pop up at the lower corner of his eye. The next day the redness had moved to his upper eye lid and he was running a fever of 102. There was also what looked like a bloody fluid draining from his eye lash follicle. I treated the fever and washed his eye with warm water to remove the "gunk". The next day his fever had dropped and I gave him some Benedryl for the eye lid. The eyelid improved dramatically. No more oozing. Today when he woke from his afternoon nap the redness has moved the the end of his eyelid and the oozing began again. He has not acted sick, nor lost his appetite. What could have happened to his eye?
Answer Hi, C.,
This sounds like something that your doctor should look at. It sounds like some sort of infection is going on and I'm not sure by your description what structures of the eye are involved. Best to make sure this is not an infection of the lid or some of the deeper structures of the eye. I have seen infections in this tissue rapidly progress to the point where intensive antibiotics are needed.
