Pediatrics/Rapid weight loss

Question
I've been in the military for a while and my son was diagnosed with ADHD in January and put on Concerta.  He's always been heavy 56" and 100 pounds.  The meds have messed up his appetite and he lost 33% of his body weight in 6 months.

The medication has been reduced but I'm concerned that his physician did nothing about this for 6 months!  Should I be concerned?

Answer
Dear friend,

I am sorry but the data you have supplied is not sufficient for me to be able to interpret much. You should read the side-effects of Concerta and see if they have described weight loss as one of the side effects. If so, then the drug may be causing it. Speak to the pediatrician about the same.
