Our 16 Month old Daughter has started this same behavior. She sits staring into space while squeezing her legs so hard they look like the could explode. Our Pediatrician says she will out grow it. That answer does not help as it has been going on for 6 months. I come home from work and can not even play with her. I am lost as what to do.

I see this is old, but my daughter is 3 and has been crossing legs/squeezing them like exercises since she was an infant. We always thought it was cute and called it babysizing..the doctors never thought anything of it, but she is 3 now and I am worried, she will stop playing to lay in floor or against a chair to cross legs and squeeze them? She doesnt cry like it hurts but I do worry if it may be RA, her older sister has this and wonder if its a form of that?

It may seem odd, but since this is a "girl" thing, she may be deriving pleasure from doing this - not knowing what it is.
