Question I am a new mom. I have had a uti for approximately 2 months. My breastfed daughter, 3 months old, now has a uti. I understand these are very rare in girls under 1 year old. We both had e coli in our urine. Could I have passed it to her via breastmilk, or is this just a coincidence? I realize I probably passed on an anatomical problem at the vesicoureteral junction that predisposes us both to uti's, but the timing of her uti seemed strange, since I have one too. (I've been on three courses of antibiotics without improvement; hers resolved with suprax.)
Answer I have had a uti for approximately 2 months.
====== well compelte a 10 day course with an antibiotic under doc supervision.
My breastfed daughter, 3 months old, now has a uti.
========== if it is proven , it can be due to having the area wet often withw et clothes and / or contamination by your hands/ washed/ unwashed.
I understand these are very rare in girls under 1 year old.
====== noty rare, uncommon.
We both had e coli in our urine. Could I have passed it to her via breastmilk, or is this just a coincidence?
======= not via breats milk, but by contamination of hands/clthes/towels /hankies /soaps etc
I realize I probably passed on an anatomical problem at the vesicoureteral junction that predisposes us both to uti's,
======== that will be decided only by an expert after detailed evaluation, but such chance is very rare.
but the timing of her uti seemed strange, since I have one too. (I've been on three courses of antibiotics without improvement; hers resolved with suprax.)
====== well you may need to tell me about your so called anatomical problem.
a consultation with urologist is highly recommended .
thanks
