WOW martha!  WOW WOW WOW!  Yours is the story of thousand upon thousands of hungry people, searching for the truth and for God!  WOW!

I'm not sure when you wrote that message I just read, but I hope that it wasn't long ago.  Very often when a person is that hungry for God, but not knowing where to go, he will choose for himself his own path.  I hope you are waiting on God for your answer, because even through this crazy world, He'll send you one.

AMEN!  Searching for the holy ghost and fire, with speaking in tongues, is the number one thing somebody for God does, everytime!  They might not know what they are searching for, through all the whirlwind of doctrines Christianity has to offer, but if they get on their knees and pour their hearts out to Jesus, they're going to be "baptized into the body because "by one spirit are we all baptized into one body"!  Well, I'm going to do my best teaching you the foundamentals of a faith that is going to return to haunt the doorsteps of every insincere person, and set free every sincere person.  You can look at your bible with me, but here we go.  Isaiah chapter 28 verse 11 and 12!

"For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.  To whom he said, 'This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear."

What was Isaiah talking about?  It's kind of obvious, really.  He didn't know what he was talking about, but he was prophecying of the time when Jesus sent back the holy Ghost, with the tongues you are now seeking.  The fact that most of the people who have experienced speaking in tongues are now rejecting it (some even go so far as to say it's of the devil?!), completes the prophecy, "yet they would not hear."  So sad!  But from what I can tell, you've been waiting to hear, so here's your answer.

Elijah wrote at 2006-12-30 15:10:54
Proverbs 9:1 is a prophecy concerning the new covenant as well.  "Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars."   Seven pillars?  Ephesians chapter 4 verse 4 lists the first three, followed by verses 5 and 6.

"There is one body, and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.  One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

Let's start with number one.  One body.  Who's in that body, and who's not?  Well, 1Corinthians 12:13a.  "For by one spirit are we ALL baptized into one body."  So, only those who have received the holy ghost (which equals the holy spirit) baptism are in the body.  But that's something that happens on the inside?!  How can we tell?  "For with stammering lips and another tongue", Acts 2:4 "And they were all filled with the holy ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance", Acts 19:6, "... the holy ghost came on them; and the spake with other tongues".

There are many, many verses concerning tongues in the new testament.  The only confusing one may be in 1Cor. 12.  Well, Paul was indeed speaking of gifts in that chapter.  So, if all the things in that chapter were gift, let's say that not everyone has to have them.  Look at 1Cor.12:9,10: Speaking of gifts, "To another faith... to another healing... to another miracle-working... to another prophecy... to another divers kinds of tongues."  So, let's say tongues is a gift.  tongues is available to some in the body.  tongues is, therefore, only prossessed by some in the body.  let's do the same thought process with another gift listed here.  Let's say faith is a gift.  Faith is available to some in the body.  Faith is, therefore, only possessed by some in the body.

And we both know that everyone must have faith.  This thinking is not true.  Paul was talking about unusual extensions of common things that we all have in the spirit.  When you finally get the baptism of the holy ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues, which is the new birth, you'll feel the miracle-working, you'll feel the prophecy, you'll feel the healing power of God's holy spirit!  And when you start to pray with that unknown tongue, you'll feel the fire you so long for!  You'll know that what i'm telling you is the truth, if you go with God-sent feelings, and you'll miss out on a broken, trodden-down life most of God's people live in today, in Christianity.

Elijah wrote at 2006-12-30 15:32:52
Number 2, the one spirit.  Well, the biggest confusions on this are insane.  First of all, the spirit isn't a person.  God doesn't deal in deep, dark mysterious, contrary to what your flesh wants you to think, and that is never once suggested in the scriptures.  Everytime a pronoun for spirit is seen in the new testament, in greek, in means "it" not "he" as it is often translated to intentionally lead God's precious people- people in the one body- to believe.  Lying Christian ministers!  I wish God would expose all their treachery, and set His people free!

Also, some folks say that the holy ghost is not the holy spirit.  A quick reading of the new testament could kill this idea, if you are not deeeeeep.  Holiness is not contrary to common sense.

Number 3.  One hope.  This one's a toughy for most of God's people today.  Why?  They don't have a hope.  Why?  Because they are already saved.  you've been through that.  You "got saved" at age 7 or 8, right?  And then later, felt like if you died you were going to hell?!  If you gave enough money to any Christian man, he'd say you were saved.  I imagine you grew up being told you were saved, eh?  What happened then?  No, dear Martha, Jesus said "he that endure until the end, the same shall be saved."  Paul said, "Now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed."  Salvation and Conversion are not the same thing!  God set your people free!

Number 4: one Lord.  Simple enough. Not the same as the one God, because Paul mentions them separate.  Not greater than the one God, because "God alone is good" and countless other scriptures that say that.  God is honest with His people.  Just be simple, don't let that mind and flesh take over, and wait for God's simple answer.  Solomon said that the gospel would be so simple even a fool could understand it.  If we are created in God's image, then are we a mysterious, three-in-one, one-in-three divine blob?  No, not at all.  Just relax.  Jesus is not the Father.  The Son is not the Father.  The gospel is simple.

Number 5: one faith.  I'm teaching you the one faith.  hang ten.  It's very important.  "You must be sure you're not decieved, for the storm is coming!  It will try all your houses one and all.  If you're building on the rock, it will stand forever.  but if on the sand, you will fall!"

Number 6: one baptism.  Again, this one stumps most of God's precious, spirit-baptized people.  1Cor.12:13.  "for by one spirit are we all baptized into one body."  why can't that be enough?  God doesn't use carnal things anymore.  For awhile, there was water baptism, but that was only for Jews.  Phillip and the eunuch?  The eunuch was on his way to jerusalem: he was a converted Jew!  Water baptism was only instituted by God for a very short time.  Most of God's people don't realize that at the very beginning there was two different gospels.  One for Jews, one for Gentiles.  Galations 2:7 states this very clearly.  But Paul's doctrine was superior.  it was more spirit, and less flesh.  (Gal. 3:28)  If you can stand all of Galations, Martha, you have arrived!  That is a book with law!  :)

Number 7:  One God.  Who is greater than all, even greater than Jesus!  Amen.

God bless you, and for more stuff, check out pastorjohnshouse.com or isaiah58.com.  If you are searching, you'll find.  But pray that you'll believe what you find.

Yes you are absolutely correct and need to join a church and get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (There is neither salvation in any other name given under heaven among men whereby we must be saved)  for the remission of  sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  (Acts 2:38)

It is refreshing to see that someone is sincerely hungery and thirsting for righteousness.

I will pray for you.

Dear Martha:

There are 5 instances in the New Testament where the "baptism of the Holy Ghost" happens....but in only 3 of those do the people actually speak in tongues...which means being filled with the Holy Ghost doesn't HAVE to be accompanied by speaking in tongues.

Also, the Bible says we are all sealed by the Holy Spirit after accepting Christ:

Acts 2:38-39

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

1 Cor 12:3-4

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

Eph 1:12-14 says we are ALL sealed by the Holy Ghost:

12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who[a] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

There are diverse gifts given to the Body of Christ, but not ALL are speaking in tongues:

1 Corinthians 12

Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that[a] you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same[b] Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

If someone is telling you that you do not have the Holy Spirit because you do not speak in tongues, that is NOT Biblical. All throghout the New Testament the apostles were filled and directed by the Holy Spirit.

ALSO...one fact that not a lot of Christians know, is that the word used in Pentecost for "tongues" is DIALEKTOS in Greek, which means wordly languages, or dialects. The people of Pentecost were not speaking "angelical tongues", but rather the tongues of the unbelievers who had shown up and were listening in, and the Holy Spirit allowed this for the edification and benefit of the church.

If you read Corinthians and Acts you will see that the Holy Spirit ONLY let people speak in tongues if it was BENEFICIAL to the church, which means if there were foreigners there who could not understand the Gospel because of language barriers, the apostles would suddenly find themselves speaking the native language (which is why Paul says in Cor that he spoke more languages than all of them).

What was happening in the church of Corinth is that EVERYONE was speaking in tongues during service (because they were saying basically that you did not have the Holy Ghost if you did not speak in tongues, so everyone, even the ones who did not truly have the gift, wanted to do it), and the services ended up confusing more people than actually teaching them the Gospel. If you read the whole chapter you can see that what Paul is trying to teach them is to INTERPRET the tongues being spoken for the edification of the church, and to only speak a few at a time.

Sorry this got so long...I really encourage you to read Cor and Acts.

The bottom line is we are ALL filled with the Holy Spirit...and ALL given different gifts, so not ALL get to speak in tongues. Keep seeking God and everything else will follow! God bless!!!

HI

MY NAME IS KEY. WITH MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE HOLY GHOST IT WAS AND STILL IS A WONDER OF MY SOUL. THE HOLY GHOST BRING YOUR SOUL ALIVE AND TO A KNOWLEDGE TO KNOW THE ONE MAN THAT WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. I ALSO GROW UP IN THE BAPTISE CHURCH WHERE YOU WENT TO CHURCH ON SUNDAYS, BY AN HOUR AFTER CHURCH WAS OVER YOU WAS DOING THE BUSINESS OF THE ENEMY. BUT WHEN I MEET MY HUSBAND, FRIEND AT THE TIME I KNOW IT WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT THE GOD WANTED TO ME TO DO AND BE APART. THEN MY FRIEND (HUSBAND NOW) ASKED ME TO GO TO CHURCH WITH HIM. THE LIVING GOSPEL CHURCH. THEY HAVE CHURCHES EVERYWHERE. AFTER THE SECOND TIME GOING GOD DECIDED TO FILL ME WITH THE SPIRIT OF THE HOLY GHOST WITH THE EVIDENCE OF SPEAKING WITH TONGUES. I WAS NEVER A PERSON TO WEAR SKIRTS, THE NEXT DAY GOD HAD ME TO GIVE ALL MY PANTS AWAY. I'M 30 YRS OLD IN A SKIRT FULL OF THE HOLY GHOST AND HAPPY WITH AN HUSBAND, KIDS AND GOD ON MY SIDE TO DO ALL THAT MY HUSBAND,KIDS,FRIENDS,AND FAMILY COULD NOT DO. MY FAMILY DIDN'T AND STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY AND HOW I'VE CHANGED IN THE EYES BUT I MUST SAY IT WAS GOD WHO DELIEVED ME FROM THIS WORLD THAT WILL ONCE BE DONE AWAY WITH. I LOVE MY LIFE IN GOD. IT IS NOT ALL STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM BUT THE SCRIPTURE SAY "JOY COMETH IN THE MORNING" AND WHEN MY MORNING COME I WILL BE LIKE HIM. MAGNIFING HIM AND KNOWING WHO HE IS. SO SWEETIE KEEP REACHING FOR HIM AND I PROMISE ONE DAY HE WILL PICK YOU TO JOIN HIM IN MARRIAGE AND YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. STAY IN COURAGE AND BE GLAD. I LOVE YOU WITH THE GODLY LOVE IN ME. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU.

THE HOLY GHOST REQUIRE YOU TO MEET A CONDITION IN YOUR HEART. YOU MUST FIRST REPENT. REPENT MEANS TURN FROM YOUR SINS AND DO THEM NO MORE. THEN IN YOUR HEART ASK GOD TO MINISTER TO YOU AND COME INTO YOUR HEART. MEDITATE ON HOW GOOD HE IS. TELL HIM HOW MUCH YOU APPRICIATE HIM. TELL HIM HOW SPECIAL HE IS. SEE JUST LIKE A NATURAL MAN, GOD LIKE THE SAME THINGS. STAY FAITHFUL AND TELL GOD HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE HOLY GHOST AND YOU DESIRE TO HAVE IT AND BE WITH HIM. WATCH GOD!!!

Repent( turn from your sin life and live a holy life until Jesus returns) Be Baptized(BURRIED) in liquid water for the remission( complete elimination) of sins, and ye shall recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost. Dont stop there, the bible says " Whosoever shall call upon the name of the lord( which is Jesus) shall be SAVED. Tarry( wait) for God through prayer and supplication, and most importantly, have faith in Christ Jesus. Another bible verse in the Hebrews chapters, " But without faith it is imposible to please him, for he that cometh to god must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently( patiently) seek him. My friend just give up all of your wrongs and continue to pray for God's mercy and grace until he fills you with the Holy Ghost as the spirit of God gives utterence. Speaking in true toungues constitutes the new birth of you being born again, and adopted into God's ROYAL FAMLY. Continue to seek God's face until you get the Holy Ghost. Get baptized in Jesus name.

Hey, Martha

The very first thing I would like to say to you is that you are on the right path. Sometimes things can get a little confusing when we begin to look to man for answers. God is not the author of confusion. I would like to encourage you to continue to seek after God. And see what God  has to say to you personally through his word.

The reason why we need the holy ghost is because it is a teacher. Not only does it teach us, but it will lead and guide us into all truth. Not man's truth but God's truth through his word.

The bible also teaches us not to be double minded for a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. And to be tossed to a fro with every wind of doctrine because there are many false prophets and teachers that are out there. The bible teaches us that in all our getting to get an understanding. That understanding is in God through his word. The more you read and spend time in prayer with him and you develop a personal relationship with him you will become as Paul was on the road to Damascus. He was blind and what most people don't realize is he also could not hear and the Lord had to use a donkey to get his attention. What I'm really trying to tell you is that is as you grow in relationship with God he will begin to take the blinders off your eyes so that when you read and the corks out of your ears so that when you hear him you will know that it is him that is speaking to you through his word and giving you directions not man.

It's nothing like getting it straight from God, through his word and then you will be able to back up your belief through the word of God. Line upon line and precept upon precept. That way when someone asks you what must they do to be saved you will have not only an answer but a testimony through your experience of what God has taught you through his word and prayer.

But I must say this to you, you most definetly on the right path. Continue to pray and seek the Lord and he will lead and guide you into all truth.

Be blessed is my prayer.

Joi.

Hi Martha, i believe i may help. In the book of Romans10;9 read and it says you SHALL be saved well God is waiting for us to ask him to come in our lives so you have already done that so when he comes in what comes? THE HOLYGHOST because he said he was leaving us a comforter which is the HOLYGHOST. Now in Corinthians 12 gives us the gifts of the Holyghost and Speaking in tongues is A GIFT and it comes with the HolyGHOST so although speaking is the evidence it is NOT the manifestation so Start to pray that this gift be manifested in your life don't question rather or not you have The HolyGhost because you have not spoken with other tongues because the HolyGhost can only bring about a change and keep you so seek God for the gifts you want manifested THE HOLYGHOST IS ALREADY THERE!!! waiting for the evidence to be stirred up HALLELUJAH!!!

Carlos and Martha, it is very interesting that the all the scriptures you used for baptizing in the name of Jesus were not about baptism but on the name in which man is saved. In other words by what authority man is saved. It would seem more logical to do it the way JESUS commanded it to be done. i.e. Matt 28:19. Also Carlos, since the Holy Spirit leads us and moves us to speak all truth, maybe HE can help youwith your spelling?

I have to say that I was raised in an apostolic church myself.  I have spoken in tounges many times while praying.  However, I have not been to church in a while.  My kids grandmother has recently passed and my father-in-law had taken them to a baptist church.  Now, my girls have only been to an apostolic church.  I have been impressed with the information on the baptist church's youth group that has come in the mail.  As well as, the Bible the church has both of my girls.

I was very intrigued with what my oldest daughter told me.  She said they went up front at the alter call.  A lady had them repeat after her and then told them they were saved because they had asked Jesus into their lives. She then asked me about being baptized.  Later in the conversation, she told me the church was different from ours.  She said it just didn't feel the same and she wanted to go to our church.

I myself have been struggling with the standards of th Apostolic church.  While, I believe in speaking in tongues, being baptized in Jesus name, I am not sure that wearing make up and cutting my hair makes a difference in my eternity.  I am not sure if any of this helps you, other than to say, if that if my 14 year old daughter feels the difference between the two churches than there must be something to it!  Her insight sure helped me.
