Peoplesoft - Upgrade 7.0 to PS 9.0

Expert: Peter Choi - 6/9/2008

Question
I am looking to upgrade from Ps 7.0 to PS 9.0, could you let me know the following:

1. Whether I really can upgrade from 7 to 9 easily

2. What are the challenges for Upgrade?

3. Do I need to do the re-implementation?

Answer
Hi

1. The only supported upgrade path to PeopleSoft v.9 is from v 8.3 and higher.

2. The challenges to the upgrade is

(a) understanding how the changes in v9.0 will benefit and affect your users on the current release;

(b) planning and scheduling the upgrade (including possible infrastructure uplift, downtime, data conversion, etc.)

    (i) Length of time/duration required to complete the upgrade;

(c) if you have a high degree of customizations, then you may need more time to integrate the customizations into the upgraded applications.

3. You should follow the steps outlined in the upgrade guide(s). Generally, PeopleSoft recommends that you implement a fresh install of the environment to be used for your initial gap-fit analysis and for your business analyst team members to be able to familiarize themselves with the new application. Due to the data that is in your current system, you will need to be able to upgrade your PeopleTools releases and complete the migration to the desired version.

Hope this helps.

Peter
