Question QUESTION: We have PeopleSoft HRMS version 8.0+sp1 and PeopleSoft NA payroll version 9.0 installed on two different isntances.
I want to upgrade both to version 9.0 and merger to a single instance.
Question: What is the best method/strategy to achive above, Kindly help
ANSWER: Hi Brijmohan,
I am assuming that you're looking to merge your 2 Oracle database (one with HRMS 8.0 and one with PAYROLL NA 9.0) into one instance.
1. PeopleTools. From an upgrade perspective, you can upgrade your PeopleSoft 8.0 SP1 to PeopleSoft 9.0 by making sure that you've upgraded your PeopleTools to a version that can be supported by both HRMS 8.0 and HRMS 9.0 (and for Payroll 9.0)
2. Install PeopleSoft HRMS first. Then look at installing Payroll on top of HRMS.
3. Try this out in your development or non-production critical environment first.

QUESTION: Thanks Peter for the reply, But how do I transfer data from Payroll and at what stage. If i understand correctly, you are suggesting
1) Upgrade first PS HRMS to 9.0
2) Install Payroll on top of it.
3) And then migrate data from (Payroll 8.9) to PS HRMS & NA Payroll version 9.0.
I would highly appreciate if you could jot down very high level steps.

Answer Hi Brijmohan,
The tricky part in the upgrading is to ensure that you follow the supported PeopleSoft / PeopleTools upgrade path.
Option 1
1. Install HCM 9.0 and Payroll 9.0 application into a new single Oracle instance database. This will be your 9.0 target DEMO database. Take a backup of this target database once all the PeopleSoft applications have been installed as a baseline.
2. Upgrade HCM 8.0 to 9.0 and PeopleTools to 8.49. Follow the established PeopleSoft upgrade process. This will involve creating an UPG (upgrade) database as a staging database. Complete all the steps before proceeding to the next step.
4. Once step 3 is completed, you can migrate your PAYROLL 9.0 data to the single target instance. This may be a table-by-table migration (should be a one-for-one mapping). You can choose to migrate using Oracle or PeopleTools DataMover.
You may wish to use a non-production or non-critical source and target database to perfect this integration method before doing for real on any of your critical application databases.
