Perennials - mums

Expert: Gill Borchardt - 10/17/2009

Question
I bought some mums last fall.  After they had started to turn brown, my husband decided to plant them in a very small narrow flower bed that lines our front porch.  They have come back this year and tripled in size.  Now they almost cover the walk way.  The blooms look amazing so I don't want to dig it up and throw it away.  Can I split the plant into smaller pieces and replant?

Answer
Dear Erin

Great to hear that your Mums have done so well - good for you (and your husband for moving them to such an advantageous position!)

Yes, you can certainly split them and the spring is the best time to do it.

I hope you have an equally good showing of flowers next year!
