How to Get a Personal Loan - Getting Credit

Expert: Joe Montgomery - 5/7/2007

Question
I want to apply for a personal loan, but my credit is about a 580 and I want to pay something off my credit would it be wise to take out a personal loan?

Answer
The only real way to do this would be to take out a personal loan, however the issue would be that with a credit score under 600, you would most likely not be able to qualify for the loan.  I would recommend talking to the creditor that you wish to pay off, and see if there is something you can work out.
