Hi,
I just noticed that on 3 limbs from our front tree it has webs and inside the webs there appear to be maggots which are eating the leafs inside the web. There are at least a couple of dozens and all are very active. At times i've noticed a wasp flying around them and I'm afraid they're going to kill/eat the entire tree. What are these and how do i kill them? The tree is a mulberry type.

By your description the pest are Tent Caterpillars. They can be very destructive. They will feed primarily after dark.
They little wasp you see are most likely a parasitic wasp that will lay eggs in the body of the pest and their young use the pest as a host and feed on the host from the inside and kill it. So this is natural pest control at its best.
If the nest are located where you can physically remove them do so and dispose of them or burn the nest.
Chemical treatment can be effective but they can be hard to get to in the tight web.
Bacillus Thuringiensis is a biological pesticide that works on the very young insects. Malathion, and several other synthetic pyretheroids.
First be sure to positively identify the pest.
Second utilize chemicals only as needed, carefully, and by label.

| Comment | Hi Keith, Thank you for diagnosing the pest problem on my tree. With your opinion, i called a pest exterminator who diagnosed the tree with web worms. They too mentioned that the was would have eaten the worms but at the pace they were going (by the next day, i had found 4 more webbings) the tree would have probably been dead within a week. Thanks for your assistance. | ||
