Question We live in the middle of lower Michigan. And every year around the middle of August until we get a freeze. We are bomb barded with box elder bugs on the south side of our house. Not just a few of them there are thousands. We have tried everything under the sun to get rid of them. Hope you can help. Thank you
Answer Adult boxelder bugs will enter structures in the fall, seeking winter shelter.
They seek shelter in protected places such as houses and other buildings, cracks or crevices in walls, doors, under windows and around foundations, particularly on south and west exposures
Applications of acephate (Orthene), carbaryl (Sevin) or chlorpyrifos (Dursban) spray should be applied on foundation walls, sidewalks, fence rows, etc. as boxelder bugs mature and migrate from the trees. Cracks and crevices, wall voids and similar areas may be treated with dusts and/or aerosols.
Check with your local nursery for one of these insecticides.
