Pests - damage to cusions outside

Expert: Stephen Vantassel - 9/15/2009

Question
I live in Allen, TX in a dense neighborhood.  Some animal or animals are destroying all of our cusions in the backyard.  Its fenced and its seems like it is trying to take the cloth and stuffing.  We do have squirls and lots of birds, but can'g figure out what it is and then what to do to stop it. Thanks for your help.

Answer
From your brief description, my money would be on squirrels. I would need more details and possibly high resolution images to make a definitive assessment.
As for stopping squirrels, you can try spraying Ropel on the cushions. It is a taste repellent. Be careful though, it might stain the cushions.
Otherwise, you will need to enact habitat modifications (i.e. removing bird feeders etc.) and possibly population reduction if legal in your state. Details on both can be found at http://icwdm.org
