Question
How long does it take to get rid of fleas on a dog?  Why is our newly rescued dog so quiet - she has not made even a peep since we found her (24 hours ago).  Can fleas be gotten rid of without clipping her hair?  If her hair is clipped, can it be short rather than bald?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Gabriel! Congratulations on your decision to rescue. You will be rewarded for that I'm sure!

To answer your first question, if you go to your vet and get K9 Advantix or one of the other prescription flea & tick products, it will kill the fleas within several hours. Then you may see a new flea now and then as the existing eggs hatch and are quickly killed. NO you do not have to clip off the hair. You apply the Advantix liquid to just one spot between the shoulder blades and it quickly spreads over the dog's whole body/coat.

Why is she so quiet? She's probably terrified. A lot depends on the situation in which you found her. At any rate, give her lots of quiet time to adjust to her new household. As she learns to trust you she will come around and become her happy self.

Good luck and do ask if you have further questions.
