Pharmaceuticals - zaleplon

Expert: Michael Anisfeld - 10/30/2008

Question
QUESTION: Can you tell me how to obtain zaleplon in Canada?  It used to be available as
Starnoc, but appears not to be sold here at the moment.  Zaleplon has short-
term action not comparable with any other hypnotic (enabling one to take it at 3
a.m., if one awakens then), whereas others must be taken upon retiring.  Any
ideas or suggestions?

ANSWER: Zaleplon is sold in the USA as Ambien. It is banned in Canada and is not available there.

I suggest that you send your prescription to a US pharmacy that is VIPPS certfied. On the internet go to:

http://www.napra.org/docs/0/586/717/721.asp

for a list of these pharmacies.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Actually, it is not banned in Canada.  It is quite legal here.  There is simply no distributor!

What IS illegal in Canada is importing a prescription drug--even a legal one--through the mail.  Hence my question.  I have also found that NO US pharmacies will ship to Canada, likely because it IS illegal.

any other ideas?

Answer
Humble and profuse apologies. I was mixing the drug in my mind with Zolpidem (sold here as Ambien) and which I am told is also not available in Canada.

Only two things that I can think of:

a. depending how far you are from the border, is to take a day trip to USA and visit a pharmacy - although they may have a problem in that your prescription is not issued by US registered physician (I suggest that you look in Yellow Pages, locate and then speak to pharmacist for his advise on resolving this issue before you make the trip).

b. try importing from Isrameds (they are a trustworthy internet source that I personally use - usually I do not trust internet sources, but as I have known the owners for over 30 years I (and several friends) trust them. Disclaimer - it works for me (I have no health insurance and they save me significant money) - my recommendation is personal based on my experiences and not to be construed as blanket approval of Isrameds - you need to check them out yourself and make your own decisions (I need to state this as I live in US where we are a litigious society!.
You can find their website at: http://www.isrameds.com/

Good luck, and let me know how this works out. Again apologies for the mix-up.
