Question
hello iam from kashmir, india. Few monthes ago i was prescribed escitalopram when i was in Saudi Arabia and they gave it to me free of of cost from the hospital itself, it was under the brand name CIPRALEX, manufactured by lundbeck, a danish company. Now iam back in kashmir and getting escitalopram under cipralex brand is really expensive, while other manufacturers are offering same drug at almost half rates.
Now my question to you is, Should i trust any brand as much as i trust the original one, and will it be equally effective, are cheaper brands dangerous, and can i keep swapping the brands frequently without any adverse effects. if you can prescribe any brand please.
DR Salman, as you are from India and you must be knowing how easy is it to suspect the quality and reality of a drug made in the country. So can you please advise me what to do , and suggest some good manufacturing companies of india especially dealing in CNS drugs and also possibly advise me a quality and chaper brand of escitalopram. thank you.

Dear Irfan, you can take any brand as long as it is from a reputed company and you buy it from a reliable drug store. There is no harm in swapping brands. You can take DEPLAM-S from Mankind Pharma Pvt. Ltd (Rs: 39.9/10 tabs), ESDEP from Nicholas Piramal India Ltd. (Rs: 52/10 tabs) or STALOPAM from Lupin Laboratories Ltd. (Rs: 51.53/10 tabs).
