Question
Hello,

I take 0.5mg of Alprazolam (Xanax) 2x per day for anxiety.  I also deal with kidney stone pain infrequently and my doctor prescribed me PROPOXYPHENE NAPSYLATE (Darvocet) for pain as needed.  I've done some research on the internet and it seems as if these two are dangerous to take together.  It is the only pain medicine that I have around and I'd love to know if it's something that I can take, as I'm in some pain.

Thank you,

James

Answer
There are major drug-drug interactions between the two. The combination can be dangerous for some patients and should not be taken except under close medical supervision. There are many pain relievers which do not have any dangerous interation with Alprazolam and you may ask your physician to prescribe one of these.
