Pharmaceuticals/Wellbutrin dose

Question
Over the years I have taken two different dosages of Wellbutrin XL: 150 and 300 mg. I've generally been at either dose for several months or more at a time. My experience is that 150 provides therapeutic benefit, but not enough, while with 300 mg, there seems to be a level of edginess and jittery movement that develops. I wonder if 225 mg might be the ideal dosage. Is there a way to obtain this? Why are we restricted to such large jumps in dosage (100% increase)?

Answer
Dear David, instead of WELLBUTRIN XL you can take WELLBUTRIN SR 100 mg twice daily. This will give you 200mg Bupropion daily. But the whole day's dose should not be taken all at once via SR tablets. So you will have to divide the dose in two- i.e. 100mg in morning and 100 mg in evening. If that does not provide adequate benefit, you can take WELLBUTRIN SR 150 mg in morning and WELLBUTRIN SR 100 mg in evening to get 250 mg daily.
