My brother was prescribed WELLBUTRIN (bupropion) recently for two reasons. First, to help with a mild form of depression. Second and the primary reason was to help him quit smoking. He's been smoking for almost 20 years and the only time he's ever quit before was with the help of WELLBUTRIN.
What I'd like to know is if there are any possible drug interactions taking ADDERALL (Amphetamine) with WELLBUTRIN? I'm sure the doctor advised him on all aspects of Wellbutrin but as his brother, I would like to know exactly how bad mixing the two might be? The doctor prescribing Wellbutrin was not his primary physician who administers his other medications.
Also, the same holds true with taking XANAX (CIV alprazolam) while on Wellbutrin? Can you please tell me what drug interactions to expect if these two are mixed?
Thanks in advance for your help and expertise.
Chico
Answer Dear Chico,
The use of bupropion is associated with a dose-related risk of seizures. The risk may be increased during coadministration with Amphetamine or alprazolam. Bupropion may also antagonize the central pharmacologic effects of sedatives like Alprazolam and cause agitation, anxiety, and insomnia. If you notice any of the above symptoms, stop two of the three drugs and consult your doctor.
