Answer I am answering these questions for interview for faculty position at middle level in a paraclinical department of an Indian Medical School.
1. Being intellectually active and involved in the creation, assimilation and dissemination of knowledge.
2. During 3rd year of MBBS. Basic steps include gaining a thorough knowledge of all medical subjects.
3. A deep desire to learn and pleasure in being involved with and counseling young people.
4. Boss/supervisor may be not willing to change his notions and method of working and not allow the young researchers to explore on their own. Also, job insecurity in the early years of career and the necessity to keep the higher authorities pleased with you.
5. Lack of adequate funds for young researchers.
6. MD or Phd, and short courses to learn specific research and teaching techniques.
7. A medical degree followed by MD and/or PhD.
8. Perseverance, patience, good communication skills, professional networking skills, teamwork, Biomedical information retrieval skills, computer skills.
9. Checking email for alerts on updates on area of interest, participation in online discussion groups and forums, preparing for undergraduate lecture, delivering the lecture, supervision of research activity in lab, participation in departmental seminar, search of literature, guiding students in writing of research paper, thesis, etc.
10. Not many. One can become associate professor followed by professor, leading to departmental head, and maybe principal/dean of Medical College.
