Subject: Allergic Reaction

Question
yesterday I went to the ER with a swollen lip.  They said it was from an allergic reaction.  They gave me Xanax, Benedryl, and a steroid to treat this. Is Xanax a good drug to use in this situation.  Right after taking this medication in a IV I couldn't breathe they had to give me EpiPen injection.  I am wondering if the combination of all of these medicines is what made me sick.

Answer
Hi alexandra,
Xanax is an anti anxiety medication. Benadryl is an anti-hitamine used to treat allergic reactions. The combination can reduce mental clarity for a period of time. The steroid is used also to reduce inflammation associated with allergic reactions. Some people can have psychiatric adverse reactions to the steroid. Describe what you mean by "sick". Do you know what you were allergic to?
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
