Subject: Expired Omnicef
Question My 5 year-old's doctor just prescribed Omnicef for an ear infection. I already have some unopened, in my medicine cabinet, but the expiration date is 2005. Does it degrade to toxic materials over time?
Answer Hi Beth,
Omnicef suspension once reconstituted is only good for about 10 days at room temperature. I assume that is the form that was prescribed for a 5 year old. Get a fresh supply. The expired med would be of no benefit.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
