Question If your prostatitis treatment no longer responds to levaquin, does that mean that ciproflaxin won't work either or other drugs in that class? Are levaquin and cipro the same and treat the same thing?
Answer Hi,Mike!
Levaquin and Cipro are both in the quinolone class of antibiotics. Basically, they work against the same bacteria, but if you think Levaquin is not working, the best way to check if another antibiotic should be tried is for your doctor to take a urine sample and do a urine culture and sensitivity. This determines which antibiotic is sensitive to and which is resistant to the particular bacteria causing the prostatitis. Hope this helps, Mary
