Subject: depression
Question Hi. I have been on celexa for 6-7 years for GAD. I just recently found out I also have depression and was prescribed Effexor. I was told to immediately stop the celexa and begin the Effexor; 37.5MG, one pill, twice daily. Seeing as how I have been on Celexa for 6-7 years should I be expecting any side effects from the Effexor? Thank you. Brenda
Answer Hi Brenda,
I would not expect any adverse effects from stopping the Celexa and immediate starting on Effexor. The Effexor would cover the same serotonin mechanism as Celexa with the addition of norepinephrine reuptake inhibition.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
