About Dr. Tara Kompare, Pharm.D.

I can answer a broad range of questions related to community pharmacy practice. My particular
interests include childrens` health and safe medication use for seniors. As the mother of two small children, I am quite knowledgable on many parenting issues from how to handle
a baby with colic to how to get kids to take their medicine. With regards to medication use in seniors, I can answer questions about adverse effects, drugs to generally avoid
in that population, and disease management issues.
Experience
I entered the world of pharmacy as a technician for approximately six years. I then went on to receive my Doctor of Pharmacy degree and now work for the Federal Government as an outpatient pharmacist.

Question
I have a sinus infection and have been on amoxicillion for three days and allegra. I accidently got hit on the side on my head and it it is sore but i am fine. The only pain reliever in the house is hydrocodone. can i take on or is this dangerous? I take no meds normally at all

Hi Mary,
Sorry to hear of your injury! Hydrocodone is a very good pain killer but can cause drowsiness and should not be mixed with alcohol.
It does not have any interactions with amoxil or allegra so if you have been prescribed hydrocodone for pain in the past,and it worked well, then I see no reason why you should not take it. But, I will say that I would try some Tylenol or Motrin first since hydrocodone is associated with more side effects.
