Subject: naproxen 500

Question
i have naproxen 500 with expiration date april 2007.. i wanted to make sure it is safe to take them now for my rotator cuff pain (inflamation)... i also wanted to know what the shelf life for prescription naproxen 500.. Do you think it still has the potency to reduce the inflamation.??

Answer
Hi Michael,
At the expiration date the manufacturer does not guarantee potency greater than 90% of label claim. How fast the drug deterirates beyon the expiry date is an unknown. There is probably some potency so you may get some relief if you take this expired drug. As far as I know it does not deteriorate to toxic compound. For optimum benefit I suggest you get a fresh supply.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt,B.Sc. Pharm
